Welcome to the islands of Cape Hope. Don’t be tricked by its tropical beaches, amusement parks and charming city centers. For there is a lot going on that doesn’t meet the untrained eye.

Our book starts on a moonless Halloween night, when the world-famous scientist Doc Pa goes missing from his home. Captain Gulgul is a fantasy adventure that tells the tale of a 10-year-old boy named Haan and his fur-kick Bingo Star in search of their grandpa. Haan has to conquer his fears, solve clues, make friends with an odd pirate named Leather Couch, color shifting elven fairy called Moon-Face and a mysterious space creature named Broda to find his kidnaped grandpa.

Evil is lurking around the corner as the space invader, Boom Track has bigger plans of conquering earth. By deceiving wild animals and turning them against humans. Cape Hope and Doc Pa hold the key to Boom Track’s plans. Can Haan and his band of friends save Doc Pa in the nick of time? Can he bring back Captain GulGul, the ancient guardian of Cape Hope and unite its animals, humans and elves to save earth?

About the authors

Vihaan Menon is a 12 year old from San Francisco Bay Area who has been day dreaming of Captain GulGul since he was 7. Unknown to the world, he is a superhero by the night. Between day and night, he also finds to be an actor, cartoonist and a 7th grader.

Vivek Menon is Vihaan’s dad. He earns a living by telling tall tales to adults through his day job. With his first book, he is moving closer to his childhood dream. Of telling tall tales to children.

Hareesh Shivanna is the illustrator behind Captain GulGul. A designer and 3D animator during the day and a passionate book lover by the night.
